Devised by Jareo Osamu, Totsu-totsu dance (which translates to “faltering” or “unsophisticated” dance), encompasses physical and non-physical ways of communicating, creating new ways for people living with dementia to interact with those around them.
Totsu-totsu dance shakes up the often-fixed nature of relationships between “caregiver” and “care receiver” and meets each person as capable, responsive and able to shape the encounter with another.

This event is presented in collaboration with LASALLE College of the Arts (Singapore). Osamu Jareo and Megumi Kamimura conducted workshops with students from the college, followed by practical sessions in a senior care facility. This presentation shares the outcomes of that process.

The programme will include a screening of a short documentary digest of the project, a mini performance, and a lecture-talk reflecting on the experiences and insights that emerged through the work. It offers an opportunity to engage with the artistic and relational processes developed on site.

The event will also mark the first public introduction of the Totsu-totsu Dance Toolkit, a free resource designed for care partners, caregivers, and facilitators interested in applying this approach. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the toolkit firsthand.

Totsu-totsu dance: A new modality in dementia care
とつとつダンス ― 認知症ケアにひらく新しいかたち ―

ダンサー・振付家の砂連尾理（じゃれお・おさむ）と非営利の文化活動団体torindo（トリンド）による《とつとつダンス》は、からだやことばにならない表現を通して、認知症のある人々が周囲の人々と新たなかたちで関わるための実験的なプロジェクトです。

 とつとつダンスは、「ケアする人」「ケアされる人」 という決まりきった関係を少しゆるめ、お互いを大切な存在として向き合いながら、一緒に関係をつくっていく時間をひらくことを目的としています。

本イベントは、LASALLE College of the Arts（シンガポール）との共同企画です。砂連尾理 と 神村恵 が同大学の学生とともにワークショップを行い、その後、高齢者施設で実践した活動の成果を発表します。

当日は、活動のダイジェスト映像の上映に加え、ミニパフォーマンスやレクチャー・トークも予定しています。現場での取り組みや、そこで生まれた気づきや変化を、来場者の皆さまと分かち合うひとときとなります。

さらに、ケアパートナーや介護に関わる方、場づくりに関心のある方に向けて開発された無料リソース「とつとつダンス・ツールキット」を初公開いたします。実際に手に取り、内容をご覧いただけるはじめての機会です。
